Africa Day is an opportunity to reflect on the challenges that threaten the well-being of African communities and ecosystems. Climate change has become a significant issue that affects Africa’s social, economic and environmental development. Human security, on the other hand, is crucial to ensuring that people have access to basic needs such as food, shelter, and health services.

The theme of this year’s Africa Day, “Promoting and appreciating knowledge in and from Africa”, emphasises Africa’s unique position as a continent that is rich in both natural and cultural resources. By leveraging these resources, we can build a more sustainable and secure future for all Africans. The Human Security and Climate Change (HSCC) programme seeks to support this endeavour through in-depth field research and policy design.
