Since 2017, Mozambique's northern Cabo Delgado province has been the site of a deadly conflict, fought primarily between the Mozambican Defence and Security Forces (FDS) and Islamist militant group Ansar al-Sunna Wa Jamma (ASWJ). The conflict has generated a massive humanitarian crisis, disrupted major liquid natural gas (LNG) projects, and led to the deaths of over 1400 civilians. In an attempt to stem the violence, the government of Mozambique has entered into both bilateral and multilateral agreements with regional and international partners, to provide security and developmental assistance.
